A graduate of Taylor Center High School, he was the best running back in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while playing at Ferris State University from 1974-77.

In 1976, he ran for 1,509 yards, fourth in the nation.
During his career, he ran for 3,546 yards on 680 carries, a 5.2-yard average, and 22 touchdowns.
Recorded a 95-yard TD run against St. Norbert College.
He scored 148 points (24 total TDs and a pair of two-point conversions).
Led FSU in rushing three straight times.
Included among his highlights were three 200-yard rushing games and six 150-yard rushing games.
