The Taylor firefighters defeated the Taylor police officers for the second straight year in a charity softball game that raises thousands of dollars for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This year, the firefighters scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 11-9. Scott Barry had two home runs for the team in red. Russ McNamee added a homer. Jim Martin had three home runs for the men in blue. Aaron Shrewsbury of the police won the home run derby held before the game. The game was held at World Series Field in Heritage Park. The game is organized by police Cpl. Jeff Shewchuk and Fire Medic Joe Aljouny. The next athletic competition between the police officers and firefighters is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. November 7, when the teams square off in the annual hockey game at the Taylor Sportsplex. The police are unbeaten on ice in the long rivalry. Former Detroit Red Wing John Ogrodnick will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs. Tickets are $5. Proceeds will benefit the Fish & Loaves Food Pantry and the Holly McGeogh Scholarship Fund.
